What a comment carries

Every comment identifies the element you selected, your note and the page it was made on. Framework details such as a component chain or a source file are added when your setup can supply them. When it cannot, the comment is still sent and your agent still gets the element, the note and the page.

Source locations

  • Vite + React and React Router: the Vite plugin instruments .jsx and .tsx files in development. The file, line and column appear when the plugin's instrumentation and the React collector can resolve them for the selected element. Not every element has a location.
  • Next.js: withPassback adds .jsx and .tsx source locations in development. Production file and line metadata is not promised.
  • Vue: component names and the .vue file come from Vue in development, when Vue exposes them. There is no line number, and this metadata is not promised in production.
  • Nuxt: the same Vue collector applies when Vue exposes development component metadata. Nuxt-specific instrumentation and production source locations are not promised.
  • SvelteKit and Astro: the comment carries the element, its selector and the page. There is no framework component chain and no source location guarantee.
  • Script tag: the comment carries element information without a framework source-location guarantee. It is delivered through the hosted service only.

Development source locations are not the same as build source hashes. A build source hash is resolved to a location through the existing manifest your build writes, and does not depend on development instrumentation.

Pictures

A comment does not always carry a picture.

  • Hosted pictures need the Premium plan and capture enabled for the site. Enabling capture does not bypass the plan: without Premium, no picture is stored.
  • Vite plugin, agent capture: needs screenshots: true and the development server.
  • Next.js agent mode: does not capture pictures.

A picture is rendered from the page. The browser does not ask you to share your screen.
